"Make a list of all the things you think you've got to do. Then give it to a friend and have them add anything they can think of. Then give it to an older family member and see if they can add anything. When you've got afairly definitive list, go through it and delegate the jobs like booking a good photographer, booking sample tasting for the catering - these sorts of administration things can be done by other people, leaving you stress free and available to make final decisions. This is what we did and it worked perfectly; it allowed us to enjoy the experience ofgetting married and the lead up to it - also, having a large multi-cultural family, there were plenty of people who wanted to help! It's not everyone's idea but we enjoyed just laughing at the constant ideas everyone came up with and letthem get on with it - we made all the last decisions so we got the wedding we wanted, the family got to interfere as they do and we got the work done for us! The biggest tip I'd give you to stop you going mad is to have a cut-off time when you don't talk wedding anymore! We had ours at 7.30pm then we could get in from work, do some planning and talk about ideas, have dinner and the rest of the night was ours, without wedding stuff getting in the way." "We had no idea how much there was to do! Without The Pink Wedding Directory to give us ideas, double check things we'd forgotten and have a great directory of suppliers, we'd have been sunk! We'd definitely recommend getting a wedding planner - even if it's a friend but someone else to help with decisions, help do some of the leg work and get things organised would have really helped! Make sure you book people early - we found that one week the florist could do it but we didn't have a date so we called back 6 days later and nearly all of her dates were gone. Certain times of the year are extremely busy and late summer is a very popular time. Don't bother getting bridal magazines; they're a waste of money when everything and much more is on the internet and when you get to adding up figures, you'll be grateful for the £25 you spent on magazines!! Another top tip is to make sure everyone going to the church has a really good map and clear instructions - we had to delay the wedding and really annoy the vicar because people got lost trying to find the church! I suppose our best piece of advice is to have fun! Just relaxbecausenothing will go exactly according to plan but as long as you've sorted most things, it's only littlethings that will happen and those can be laughed off if you're relaxed. S&Y xx" "Our wedding was perfect except for a few little things which happened when we took our eye off the ball - planning a wedding is afull time job but don't let that put you off, just be aware of it so that when it starts to get stressful and full-on, it doesn't hit you as a big surprise. The couple of problems we had were to do with suppliers. We booked an old Rolls Royce to take us to the church and had seen it on the internet and in the leaflet we were sent, complete with photos of inside the car and description. We liked the idea of having a vintage car but when it turned up it wasn't exactly the beautiful cream colour in the photo... more of a sickly mix of yellow and white and the word 'vintage' was very accurate - there was rust all over it! Another confusion was with the photographer because we hadn't checked if we were allowed to film in the church, I just assumed it would be okay as we'd paid for it but the vicar wasadamant that we weren't allowed. They are just little things but things that you kick yourself for not having done because they distract from it being a 'perfect day'. It's like a military operation - treat it like one and you'll be fine! Good luck and congratulations! x"
